This Diwali and New year, which are Festival of lights, we have taken up the project of empowering 3000 homes with solar lamps in the remote villages of Chattisgarh, India. This region has been long ignored for social development and one of the most backward regions in India.
These regions have very little or no electricity.

  1. $25 buys solar lamp for 2 families.
  2. $50 buys solar lamp for 4 families.
  3. $500 buys solar lamp for 40 families.

The benefits of the solar lamp includes

  1. Extending the day of a family in a village by 4-5 hours without the use of traditional kerosene lamps, thus helping to reduce the green house gas.
  2. Assistance in education of a child in the night.
  3. Helps in night time delivery of a child.
  4. Reduces the instance of snake bites and other insect bites.

Please see video of the solar lamp

Sustainable agriculture - Millets Initiative : Discussion with Saathi Dinesh
Upcoming Event

July 31st (Sunday) at 9pm EST

Dial - +1 559 546 1700
Participant Access Code - 243055#

AID Princeton, Seattle and Morgantown chapters support the efforts of Saathi Dinesh for sustainable agriculture and bringing back millets into the mainstream.

Farming practices, diets, cooking practices have evolved over centuries to fit the climate, soil and geological conditions of the region. In the last 30 years we see a loss of these practices and knowledge. This has led to proliferation of unsustainable agricultural systems, a severe imbalance in the fulfillment of nutritional needs of people and a degradation in the general health of our societies.

Saathi Dinesh's work through the millets initiative supports sustainable organic agriculture of millets and also through small scale rural millets enterprises help procure and process the harvest and help reach the markets and connect the millet growers with research institutes like ICAR which support bringing back millets into the mainstream. Eventually, we hope we can see millets in our public distribution system and regain their rightful place in our food/agriculture system.

Hope you can join the discussion this Sunday, July 31st at 9pm EST.
